This time, Google has banned over 150 harmful applications available in the Play Store. As part of the UltimaSMS campaign, they have been accused of cheating numerous users. These apps, which are adept at SMS fraud, often trap users by offering ads to lure large sums of money. Instead of taking the required premium SMS subscription, they used to collect money from many users. However, no ads could be seen after taking the subscription. So the apps eventually became a cause of loss to the user. That's why they've been removed from the Google Play Store.

Security firm Avast said the apps in question had been downloaded more than 10.5 million times before the ban. There is no special difference between them in terms of nature. Most importantly, the 150 applications that are banned are not limited to any one country or geographical area. In fact, users around the world have been found to be infected by them.

After explaining the nature of the 150 applications in question, Avast also sheds light on their workings. According to them, such applications get the user's location, IMEI number and country area code as soon as they are installed. This makes it easier for them to understand the user's local language. As a result, when you open the app, the user can see the instructions in their own language.

This time, the opera very cleverly asks for the phone number, e-mail ID and other important information of the interested person. Users are then asked to subscribe to a premium SMS service to enable the ad viewing feature. But even after paying, customers failed to see the ad! Moreover many times the application stops working. As a result, the app cannot be used for any work without wasting money.

Tips: What to do to avoid harmful SMS scam application

  1. Disable the premium SMS option of your own mobile carrier.
  2. Before downloading any application, read the written reviews about it.
  3. Refrain from providing phone number in the application if it does not seem credible.
  4. Always download apps from official app stores (Google Play Store, Apple App Store).
